Stock Theft Unit conducts a community outreach programme

The SAPS Limpopo Provincial Stock Theft Unit conducted an outreach programme on the prevention of stock theft, at Ga-Mamabolo, Moshate on Saturday 17 April 2021.

The police team comprised of members from the Provincial Corporate Communication and Liaison through the Section Head of Media Center Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, the Provincial Stock Theft Unit through the Provincial Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mafokwane accompanied by Captain Ramashala.

In attendance, were also members from SAPS Mankweng VISPOL through Lieutenant Colonel Moreroa, the Station Communication Officer Constable Mafodi and the Sector (01) one Commander Sergeant Machaba.

Police were warmly welcomed by the community of Ga-Mamabolo through the stock theft forum chairperson.

The purpose of the outreach programme was to educate the community about the following issues:

1. The importance of brand marking livestock.

2. The importance of opening cases as soon as they realise that their livestock has been stolen or as soon as crime has been committed.

3. Members of the community were also encouraged not to leave their cattle unattended at the grazing fields.

4. The importance of using the correct form and paying the right amount of money whenever they apply for the brand marking certificate.

5. To give the correct contact details to the police in order for them to receive feedback from the investigating officers.

6. Members of the community were also sensitized on the importance of checking for the police name tags in case they receive poor service so that they could be able to report the matter to the authorities and were also encouraged not to temper with the crime scenes.

7. Furthermore, members of the community were sensitized not to take law into their own hands through mob attacks and killings on suspected stock thieves.

8. To be ready to submit statements to ensure conviction on criminals.

9. To establish the CPF, CSF, neighbourhood watch and street committee structures that will ultimately help in the fight against crime.

Questions were raised by the attendees and answers were accordingly by the panel.

The Stock Farming Community of Ga-Mamabolo appreciated the visit from the Police.
