Woman due to appear before court for child neglect

A 23-year-old woman who was reported as missing last week has been found at a certain tavern on Friday, 16 April 2021, after information surfaced from members of the public that she was seen in one of the taverns at Violet Bank near Bushbuckridge.

The woman apparently left her three children, aged four, five years old as well as a nine-month-old baby between the evening of Friday, 09 April and the morning of Saturday, 10 April 2021. It is said that she resides with her mother and her three children. At the period that she left, her mother is said to have heard her nine-month-old baby crying from the bedroom and upon checking, her mother realised that she was gone.

The matter was then reported to police on Tuesday, 13 April 2021, after growing concerns from her family regarding her sudden disappearance. Police launched a search party and members of the public came on board hence her arrest. She is expected to appear before the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Monday 19 April 2021, to face the charge leveled against her.

The police management in Mpumalanga would like to thank members of the public for their valuable information that they provided to the police which has led to a breakthrough and apparent arrest of the woman who allegedly left her three children unattended.
