Driver arrested trying to buy fuel with counterfeit R100 notes: Verulam – KZN

R10100 in counterfeit R100 notes was recovered after a 54-year-old male attempted to pay for fuel at a service station in Verulam, KZN this morning (Saturday).

The driver filled his Toyota Hilux bakkie and several plastic drums with diesel that amounted to R4800. He attempted to make payment with the counterfeit notes when petrol attendants contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Reaction Officers arrived at the service station at 05:25 and interviewed the driver who stated that he received the money from a man he had sold a cow to. The Ndwedwe, KZN resident was unable to provide any details of that person. A further R5300 fake R100 notes were recovered in his vehicle.

He was handed over to the Verulam SAPS with R10100 in counterfeit notes for further investigation.
