Road Safety Partnership (RSP) South Africa supports UN Global Road Safety Week

May is traditionally when the UN marks the Global Road Safety Week. This year it will take place from 17 to 23 May 2021. The slogan for the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week is ‘Streets for life: why #Love30.’

The Road Safety Partnership (RSP) South Africa says the campaign is calling for 30km/h speed limits to become the norm in cities, towns and villages worldwide. “The RSP South Africa is pledging their support for the initiative. Low-speed limits in areas where traffic and people mix can significantly reduce the number of tragedies in these areas.

“Low-speed streets save lives and should be the heart of all communities. The campaign acknowledges that not only will lives be saved but healthy and green streets can be created as well. #Love30 campaign calls for policymakers worldwide to move towards policy changes that enact a change to 30km/h speed limits in areas congested with traffic and people.”

The RSP South Africa supports this global initiative and campaign. “The potential change that can be brough about by low-speed limits can have far-reaching and substantial effect in highly populated areas where there are vulnerable road-users.

“We encourage other organisations and individuals to join the RSP South Africa in supporting this initiative. By standing together for road safety we place more pressure on policymakers to bring about positive change on the roads,” says the RSP South Africa.
