Safety awareness at Hermitage Pre-Primary School

Officers from the Kariega K9 Unit and their four-legged partners honoured an invitation received from Hermitage Pre-Primary School in Addo today.

In his first display for this year, (due to lockdown restrictions), Uitenhage K9 Unit member, Warrant Officer Jacques Adlem, addressed the little children on stranger danger awareness and how to spot drugs that are camouflaged as sweets.

His new partner, Texa, a German Shepherd, who is about four years old, joined the Unit about a month ago and was very eager to show off her skills as a narcotics detector.

Warrant Officer Melisa Adlem also showed off her dog, Pierke, a tackle dog who is a four year old malinois patrol dog.

The children were fascinated and impressed with their professional abilities on drug detection and apprehension of a ‘thief’ in the act.
