Swift response by police leads to arrest of courier vehicle robbery suspects

Police arrested three suspects and recovered an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen property soon after a courier vehicle was robbed at Wonderboom in Tshwane on Monday, 03 May 2021 at approximately 09:00. A manhunt is underway for the suspect that is still at large.

Police were notified about a robbery that had just taken place in Wonderboom and crime prevention members were dispatched to search for the suspects.

A silver Hyundai i10 with four occupants that matched the description of the suspects’ getaway car was spotted and police stopped it. Suspects sped off and a high-speed chase ensued which was followed by a shootout after suspects started firing shots at the police.

The suspects crashed into other vehicles and three of them were arrested while the fourth suspect escaped on foot. Upon searching the car police recovered goods that were reported stolen during an armed robbery of a courier vehicle. One of the arrested suspects was injured and taken to hospital under police guard.

The suspects were charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm attempted murder as well as reckless and negligent driving. They will be profiled to determine if they are not linked to other crimes, especially the robbery of courier vehicles.
