Information sought for suspect after alleged kidnapping, rape and attempted murder of T-Vet college student

The Police in Siloam outside Thohoyandou is appealing for information that can lead to the apprehension of the second suspect who escaped from the hands of angry community members of Ha-Maphaila village who accosted him and his friend after they were seen carrying a seemingly unconscious woman on Sunday 27 June 2021 in the afternoon.

A 21-year-old victim, who is said to be a student at Vhembe T-Vet College, was in her rented room at Makwarela Location, Thohoyandou, when someone believed to be her ex-boyfriend allegedly arrived with his friend. The two men allegedly forced her into the boot of their motor vehicle and they then left the area.

The suspects allegedly drove to Mphaila village (Siloam Policing Area) and stopped in the bushes where one of the suspects allegedly raped her. They then started chopping her with the sharp object until she lost consciousness. Apparently thinking that the victim was dead, they then carried her and attempted to dump her in the bushes. A community member noticed them and alerted other community members who immediately caught one of them and beat him up.

The other suspect managed to escape and is still on the run. The police arrived and arrested the injured suspect. He was admitted to the hospital under a police guard.

The badly injured victim was transported to the hospital where she was admitted.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned this incident and has ordered the speedy arrest of the remaining suspect.

Cases of kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder have been opened and anyone with information is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Thabelo Victor Ndou on 071 401 3203, 015 973 5202 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Police investigations are continuing.
