KZN Transport MEC to hand over bicycles to needy learners in Vryheid in the Zululand District.

As part of opening the doors of learning and teaching, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Ms Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, will on Saturday, 26 June 2021, hand over bicycles to needy learners in Vryheid in the Zululand District.

The Shovakalula Bicycle Programme is part of government’s intervention to provide mobility to learners who are travelling more than three kilometres to access schools.

This is a joint programme between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and the Department of Education. During her budget speech last month, MEC Nkonyeni announced that this year the department will distribute more than 2400 bicycle to learners in rural schools.

As part of the programme in Zululand, MEC Nkonyeni will distribute 160 bicycles to six priority schools in the area.
