A 24-year-old suspect is appearing at the Empangeni Magistrates’ Court today on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The suspect was arrested on 28 June 2021 at 03:00, following an operation by Empangeni police officers. His arrest follows an incident that took place on 16 June 2021 at 20:00. It is alleged that the taxi driver Nkosinathi Mthimkhulu (23) was at his rented house in Indlanzi Road in Nseleni with his conductor when two men entered the house.
The suspects opened fire at them and they were injured. They were transported to a local clinic where Mthimkhulu died. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation by Empangeni SAPS. The docket was transferred to the Provincial Taxi Task Team who took over the investigation. The suspect is appearing in court pending the next court date.
