In response to the drive for emissions reduction, automotive manufacturers have reacted with downsizing engines to reduce fuel consumption and begun including exhaust after-treatment devices like Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) to minimize harmful particle emissions. The by-products of these trends are increased engine heat and pressure – leading to increased Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) – and the need to properly protect new exhaust after-treatment devices.
Champion Lubricants has launched an innovative engine oil, OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III. This oil is an upgrade of the existing OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 LL III, and what makes this engine oil so innovative is its unique combination of specifications, including the new API SP and MB Approval 229.52 on top of the ACEA C3, VW 504.00/507.00 (official approval) and BMW LONGLIFE-04 (official approval).
OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III is based on the ACEA C3 mid SAPS specification for the German OEMs and it is specifically designed for the “LongLife III” requirement of the VAG group.
Its low viscosity means that engines can be more fuel-efficient while an advanced package of additives provides long-life reassurance and extend oil drain intervals. With a Mid SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur) formulation, it protects after-treatment devices while meeting Euro 5 and 6 emissions standards.
To further increase the time between oil services, Champion has improved the lubricant’s oxidative stability, preventing oxidation and degradation. For total internal engine component protection, anti-corrosion additives were included alongside increased protection against LSPI and additives to help eliminate harmful deposits and sludge forming within the engine.
OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III meets a wide array of the car parc’s most important specifications and standards. The new engine oil formulation is backwards compatible with most of the previous Volkswagen specifications – this saves workshops time and money by providing a single enhanced solution for gasoline and diesel models.
Available in 1, 4, 5, 20, 60, 205 and 1000-litre sizes, OEM SPECIFIC 5W30 C3 LL III can be used in approximately 112 million European vehicles. Many of these are newer vehicles, presenting an important long-term opportunity for servicing within the aftermarket.
