Two men were held hostage while robbers cut the safe in a bread delivery vehicle in Waterloo, KZN this morning (Saturday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) learnt of the robbery at approximately 09:46. Reaction Officers were dispatched to a tuck shop in Phase 6, Waterloo where they met the driver and his assistant.
It was established that while delivering bread in the area, the driver and his assistant were accosted by three men. One suspect produced a firearm and forced the men into the back of a Kia bakkie.
The victims were robbed of their cellphones.
The robbers then drove to an isolated location near Waterloo where they removed the safe. Prior to fleeing they opened the back door and freed the victims. The two then drove to a nearby tuck shop where they borrowed a cellphone and contacted RUSA for assistance.
It could not be confirmed if the suspects had fled on foot or in a vehicle.
