Eden Cluster police arrest four suspects with copper at Plettenberg Bay

The Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team members deployed to focus on illicit activities along with the entry and exit points to the Western Cape arrested four suspects and confiscated approximately 164 kilograms of copper near Plettenberg Bay on Monday, 26 July 2021 at about 19:30.

The members conducted a vehicle checkpoint on the N2 highway when they pulled over a suspicious Toyota Quantum minibus taxi that was traveling to George. Upon searching the vehicle the police found two containers with copper and a bolt cutter on board. They confiscated the items and subsequently arrested the taxi driver as well as three passengers.

The foursome aged between 31 and 47 remains in custody. They are expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 28 July 2021 on charges of possession of the suspected stolen property.

Western Cape police management lauded the members for these arrests which are in line with priorities to bring perpetrators involved in the theft of non-ferrous metal and damage to essential infrastructure to book.
