Firearms seized by the Anti-Gang unit

Members of The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit were deployed to Hanover Park in the Philippi policing area due to sporadic incidents of gang violence reported. Information was received regarding possible firearms and ammunition hidden at residences in the area which had been utilised in gang violence. The information was operationalized and addresses were visited.

During the operation three males aged 24, 34 and 49 from Hanover Park were arrested on charges for being in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

The following firearms and ammunition were seized:

– One Uzzi 9mm Semi-Automatic Sub machine pistol without a serial number

– One Kuzi P92 9mm pistol, without a serial number

– One Norinco P34 9mm pistol, without a serial number

– One Glock 9mm pistol, without a serial number

– 67 x 9mm rounds of ammunition

– Four 9mm pistol magazines

The firearms will be sent for ballistic analysis to determine links to crime.

The suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court tomorrow on the mentioned charges.
