Suspect to appear in Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court for being illegally in possession of firearm and ammunition

Concerted efforts and vigilance by strategically deployed members of the Southern Cape Flying Squad along with the major and secondary entry and exit routes along the rural towns of the Southern Cape landed a 48-year-old man behind bars after he was found to be in possession of a firearm without a valid license.

Yesterday, Sunday 11 July 2021 at approximately 15:30, Flying Squad members deployed on the R12 near De Rust pulled over a suspicious LDV that was en-route to Ashton from the Eastern Cape. Upon searching the vehicle, members found a 9mm pistol in the luggage of the suspect whilst he nervously looked on. The firearm with two live rounds in the magazine was confiscated and handed in as evidence.

The suspect was arrested on the spot and detained. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court this morning after he was charged with the Unlawful/Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.

Western Cape Provincial Management has lauded the members for their vigilance and continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens of our province.
