Suspects arrested with illicit cigarettes during ongoing roadblocks

Members who were on duty on the R59 road noticed a vehicle parked alongside the road. The vehicle was approached and a request was made to search the vehicle. During the search, cigarettes were found hidden in a black bag.

The suspect attempted to bribe the police member with R1800.00. He was arrested on the spot.

About 2470 boxes of cigarettes with an estimated value of about R20 000 were confiscated by the police.

The 40-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of suspected illicit cigarettes and bribery. The arrested suspect is set to appear in Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 July 2021.

Harrismith: A taxi driver was arrested at a roadblock on the N3 Durban bound. He was charged with possession of illicit cigarettes.

The taxi was stopped and searched at about 13:00 and a box containing cigarettes was found. Cigarettes valued at about R12 500.00 were confiscated.

The suspect will appear in Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 27 July 2021.
