Female-police and traffic officers manned roadblock on N2 in East London to enforce compliance with Covid-19 regulations

Female police and traffic officers have undertaken to show no mercy for lawlessness on the roads this month and beyond. “Imbokodo” manned a roadblock on the N2 in East London today as part of celebrating Women’s Month, enforcing compliance with Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

They were comprised of female police officials from the Buffalo City Metro, Provincial Traffic officers from Wilsonia, Fort Beaufort, Zwelitsha, Elliotdale, and Komga.

The roadblock seeks to enforce compliance with Covid-19 lockdown regulations, Road Traffic Act, transportation of drugs, human trafficking, reduce road crashes, and raise awareness about road safety to mention but a few.

The officers managed to stop and checked 354 vehicles for compliance with the Covid-19 lockdown regulations and Road Traffic Act. They issued 64 summons to motorists for various road traffic act offenses. The total value of the fines amounted to R66 200. Three suspects, 22, 23, and 27 were found in possession of dagga, possession of three boxes containing medicines, and an undisclosed amount of cash during the search in their vehicle.

The suspects are due to appear in the East London Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of dagga, dealing in drugs, and possession of the suspected stolen property.

The SAPS and Traffic management applauded the members for their efforts and dedication.
