SADAG Facebook LIVE Video focuses on understanding Postnatal Depression

A women’s body and mind go through many changes during and after pregnancy and as a result, some women find themselves feeling empty, emotionless, or sad.

Feeling Depressed or experiencing low mood for long periods of time after giving birth, could be a sign of “Postpartum Depression”. Some women get “baby blues,” or feel sad or empty, within a few days of giving birth. For many women, the baby blues go away within 3 to 5 days but if your baby blues don’t go away or you feel sad, hopeless, and low for longer than 2 weeks, you may be experiencing Postpartum Depression. Feeling hopeless or empty after childbirth is not a regular or expected part of being a mother.

It is okay if you are struggling to cope. Postnatal Depression is not your fault. Just like diabetes, it’s a medical condition that needs treatment to get better. It doesn’t make you a bad person or a bad mother.

SADAG are hosting a Facebook LIVE chat session, Friday 13 August from 12pm-1pm where experts will be having a discussion around understanding Postnatal Depression. Experts will be sharing tips and tools via a LIVE video on the SADAG Facebook Page.

We will be joined by Psychiatrist Dr Bavi Vythilingum, and Founder of Mums Support Network Alexandra Wallis These experts unpack coping with Postnatal Depression and further explore the signs and symptoms for mom’s to look out for in themselves.
