Wanted suspect to appear in court

Durban Central police officers acted on information received and arrested a 27-year-old suspect who went into hiding after shooting and robbing two victims. The suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on charges of attempted murder, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On 17 August 2021 at about 18:30, police were busy with operations when they received information about a suspect that was sought on two counts of attempted murder and robbery which was committed earlier this month. They proceeded to Albert Street where they apprehended the suspect. Upon searching the suspect, police recovered a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition. A cell phone which was taken during the robbery and attempted murder was also seized by police.

It is alleged that on 7 August 2021 at 11:30, two men aged 27 were outside a Shisanyama in Durban CBD when they were accosted by an armed man. At gunpoint, the suspect robbed the victims of their cellphones before opening fire and wounding them. The victim sustained a gunshot wound on the thigh and the second victim was shot on the lower abdomen. They were both taken to the hospital for medical attention. Charges of attempted murder and robbery were opened for investigation.

The investigation conducted by police led to the arrest of the suspect who will also be profiled to ascertain if he is legally permitted to be in the country and linked to other serious cases.
