Drunk driver arrested in Verulam

A drunk driver was arrested after he fled the scene of a collision on the R102 at the Verulam, KZN intersection last night (Sunday).

The sequence of events began at approximately 18:11 when the driver of a white Isuzu bakkie rear-ended a white Ford Ranger which was stationary at the intersection. A 14-year-old girl who was seated at the rear of the Ford Ranger suffered moderate injuries.

The driver of the Isuzu bakkie sped off and was pursued by tow truck operators who managed to stop his vehicle at the King Shaka International Airport intersection. They escorted the driver back to the scene where he was arrested by Police. He was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. It was alleged that he collided with five vehicles while attempting to make his getaway however this could not be confirmed.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was contacted by a bystander requesting medical assistance for the teenager who was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
