Henry will break the Men’s Guinness World Record for SADAG!

Tomorrow on the 21st of September SADAG celebrates an achievement with Henry Cock, who is by now a household name to the SADAG family. Henry is Breaking the World Men’s Record of the most consecutive half marathons!! That’s reaching 76 half marathons in 76 days!!

On the 8th of July, amidst the chaos of the pandemic and looting, Henry not only began his unusual journey to beat a Guinness World Record but at the same time raise Mental Health Awareness and funds for SADAG. His goal is to run 133 consecutive marathons, which is a total of 2800km, from from Kosi Bay to Vioolsdrift. Tomorrow , he will reach his first milestone by breaking the Men’s World Record of 76 consecutive half marathons!

Henry is very passionate about Mental Health as he had his own experiences in 2019. Henry shares, “The more I started to delve into my own personal experiences, the more I began to understand how important mental health is and the more I learnt that it is still a very stigmatized and a taboo subject. It takes great courage to speak out and recognize that you suffer from a mental disorder.

The more we can open the conversation surrounding Mental Health, the greater the understanding and empathy will be for those that suffer.”

Henry believes that his target of 4 million Rand is not impossible. Henry has raised an outstanding R 708 016 so far. He says. “If I can raise 10c from every South African citizen I will reach my target. Will it come from every citizen? No, it won’t. I’m asking 8000 people to donate 10c for every kilometre I run in 2021, including my training. How much do I train? 300km a month. This works out to 1 coffee per month, per person. If I get just 10c from 8000 people for every km I do (my aim is 6000 km in total), I will aim for R4 Million by the end of the year to help people who don’t have funding to assist them with anxiety, depression, bipolar, trauma – these are all special mental illnesses problems.”

SADAG’s Founder, Zane Wilson, and the SADAG team sends a special congratulations to Henry for his great achievement and a heartfelt gratitude to his commitment to raising awareness for Mental Health and raising funds for SADAG.
