Hijacked vehicle recovered in Ndwedwe

A white Toyota Etios that was hijacked in Ottawa, KZN was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in Ndwedwe, KZN.

The 48-year-old victim arrived at RUSA Headquarters in Verulam requesting assistance. He informed Reaction Officers that he was a driver for an E-Hailing company. He went on to explain that he was summoned to Umhlanga, KZN to uplift two passengers who informed him that they required to be dropped off in Ottawa.

As they approached the requested destination one of the passengers produced a firearm and instructed the driver to move over to the back seat. They then drove him to a sugar cane plantation in Canelands where they locked him in the boot. The victim could hear the suspects stripping parts of the vehicle while they searched for the tracking device.

They then drive to a service station where they filled R100 fuel. The victim was then dropped off on the main road. He managed to flag down a passing minibus taxi and informed the driver of the hijacking. The taxi driver assisted the man and dropped him off at RUSA Headquarters.

Reaction Officers contacted Tracker who confirmed that the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device. The unit was activated and was emitting signals nearly 40 kilometers away from Verulam. RUSA Members began tracking the vehicle and recovered it abandoned on an unpaved road in Ndwedwe. The keys were still in the ignition.

The victim was not injured.
