25-Year-old electrocuted while repairing overhead cables at Ottawa – KZN

A 25-year-old man was electrocuted while conducting repairs to overhead cables on Munn Road in Ottawa this evening (Friday, 08/10/2021).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from residents in the area requesting assistance at the scene. Reaction Officers and Medics arrived on scene at approximately 18:32 and found an off duty Paramedic attempting to resuscitate the male. Medics from RUSA, Netcare 911 and PT Ambulance Service continued with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) however were unsuccessful in reviving the Electrician.

According to residents, power in the Ottawa area was interrupted since yesterday. This afternoon sub-contractors for the Ethekwini Municipality arrived and were in the process of carrying out repairs when the man was electrocuted.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
