Three more suspects aged 22 and 50 were arrested yesterday, 28 October 2021 in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, and in Pretoria, Gauteng by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein assisted by the Chief Provincial Inspector from the Department of Transport in Gqeberha for allegations of fraud and corruption
This comes after the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein received information about the accused, Tlali Jacob Letaba of issuing unlawful motor vehicle roadworthy certificates with examiners from different private testing stations in the Eastern Cape. It is alleged that he issued these certificates without the vehicles being inspected by authorized examiners. The victims will then be instructed to pay the gratification of R1100.
After the arrest of Letaba on Friday, 15 October 2021, further investigation conducted by the Hawks culminated in the arrest of the trio. The suspects are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 02 November 2021.
