Shots were fired at the public after they went to the assistance of a family who was being held up at their home on Jackaranda Avenue in Mountview this afternoon (Friday, 01/10/2021).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from frantic residents at approximately 17:49 reporting the home invasion and shooting. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the property and on arrival found a large crowd on scene.
Reaction Officers established that six armed men entered the residence and bound the male victims hands & legs with cable ties. They forced his wife and four-year-old daughter into the bedroom.
They were asked to point out where their valuables were hidden. The robbers stole a safe containing cash and jewellery. A TV was removed from the wall bracket but was left behind.
Residents in the area noticed the white VW Polo with an NU registration on the driveway and grew suspicious. As the suspects exited the house they noticed a group of men gathering across the road when they fired three shots in their direction. They then got into their getaway vehicle and as they exited the driveway, a member of public smashed their windscreen with a bottle. The suspects sped off in an unknown direction.
The victims were not injured.
