Homeowner hospitalised following a house fire in Waterloo

A 44-year-old man was hospitalised for smoke inhalation following a fire at his home on Peach Road in Waterloo, KZN during the early parts of the morning (Thursday).

Residents in the area contact the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Center at approximately 02:06 requesting assistance at the scene. On arrival the man was treated by RUSA Medics for smoke inhalation. He explained
that he was consuming alcohol with friends at his home when he fell asleep.

He was woken by residents who assisted him out of the house. He was unaware that the house was on fire. The blaze was extinguished by the Ethekwini Fire Department. The cause of the fire was not established.

The homeowner was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
