Several suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of drugs

Several crime operations in the Western Cape yielded excellent results when firearms, ammunition, and drugs were recovered from our streets.

Today, at about 00:53, members attached to Cape Town Central SAPS, were busy with patrols when they received a complaint and followed up on information about stolen goods at an address near to the corners of Longmarket and Parliament Streets in Cape Town.

The members conducted a search at the premises and confiscated a firearm without a serial number, and 15 rounds of ammunition. The suspect, a 35-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged, he is expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charge.

In an unrelated matter, on 22 November 2021, members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation regarding possible firearms in the Kuilsriver policing precinct. The members recovered one rifle with five rounds of ammunition. No arrests have been made, however, an inquiry was registered and the firearm has been forwarded for ballistic tests to determine if it was used in the commission of a crime.

On 22 November 2021, members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an operation in the Philippi policing area following sporadic shootings in the Hanover Park area. During the operation, two suspects were arrested, one for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and the second for attempted murder. The suspects aged 28 and 33 will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Also on 22 November 2021, at about 20:30, Khayelitsha SAPS members received information about a firearm that was hidden in a shack. The members immediately followed up on the information and proceeded to an address in Quandu Quandu Temporals in Khayelitsha. Upon arrival, they conducted a search of the premises and found a 9mm firearm with its serial number filed off with ammunition. A 28-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged he is expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charge.

Meanwhile, about 18:50 yesterday the Provincial Integrated Task Team deployed in the Vredenburg Cluster received information of illegal drugs at a residence in Hibiscus Street, Hopefield. They proceeded to the said address and upon conducting a search, they confiscated 50 grams of Methamphetamine and cash. A 55-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing drugs. Once charged will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court.

On Sunday, 21 November 2021, at about 23:00, members attached to Mfuleni SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling in Mfuleni when they were stopped by members of the community who informed them of alleged drug dealing activity at an identified address.

The members proceeded to premises in Minister Street, Bardale, Mfuleni, and searched the house. During the search, they confiscated 19 plastic sachets of Methamphetamine and a consignment of drugs and cash. A female, aged 47, was arrested on charges of possession and dealing in drugs. She will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court today on the mentioned charges.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile praised the arresting officers for moving a step forward in creating a safer environment for the inhabitants of this province, ahead of the festive season.
