Tracker officer shot during vehicle recovery in Tongaat

A member of Tracker who was in the process of recovering a bakkie that was stolen during a business robbery was shot twice on the R614 in Upper Tongaat, KZN.

The tracking device on a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was activated after it was stolen during a business robbery in Stanger, KZN. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), Tracker, SAPS, and other Security Companies honed in on the signal.

The bakkie turned onto the R614 and was heading in the direction of Tongaat when the Tracker Operational Member intercepted the robbers. Two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fired a volley of shots in his direction. Two 9mm rounds struck his bulletproof vest but did not penetrate his armor plating. The gunmen fled into a dense bush and are still at large.

The Tracker Officer sustained minor injuries.
