Cable Thieves Abandon Getaway Vehicle: Tongaat – KZN

The occupants of a white Nissan bakkie who were in the process of stealing Telkom cables abandoned their getaway vehicle in Burbreeze, Tongaat while being pursued by Reaction Officers during the early hours of this morning (Friday).

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was on patrol in the vicinity of Sparrow Road at approximately 02:09 when he noticed one end of a chain attached to the rear of the bakkie and the other end attached to underground Telkom cables.

The Reaction Officer called for backup and as he made a u-turn the suspects sped off leaving their chain behind. The Officer pursued the suspects into Burbreeze, KZN. They abandoned the bakkie on a sugar cane farm and fled on foot.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, the license disk was found to be photocopied. The number plate appearing on the license disk was registered to another vehicle.

The Tongaat SAPS were called to the scene and the vehicle that was used in the commission of a crime was handed over. Police opted not to impound the vehicle and left it abandoned on scene.
