Firearm and drugs recovered in unrelated incidents.

A combined effort by members of Maitland Flying Squad and a Kensington SAPS detective proved successful when they reacted on intelligence received of an alleged suspect in a murder investigation. On Friday afternoon 03 December 2021, members saw the suspect driving towards them in the identified vehicle and gave chase. The suspects were seen discarding of an item out of the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to a stop and the two suspects, aged 25 and 36 were apprehended. The members picked up the discarded parcel, where it was dropped and found it containing tik. The estimated street value of the Tik is R350 000.

In an unrelated matter members attached to Operation Lockdown II were patrolling Bonga Drive, Site B, Khayelitsha on Friday 03 December 2021, when they noticed a suspicious vehicle speeding away. A chase with the assistance from the community members ensued, where after the vehicle was pulled over and both the occupants and vehicle was searched. The members found a 9mm firearm with serial number removed in the vehicle. The suspects were unable to proof ownership of vehicle. Three suspects aged between 21 and 23 were arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm, possession of presumed stolen vehicle, reckless and negligent driving including, malicious damage to property.
