Police in Mpumalanga urge mothers to value the precious lives of children as a woman is due to appear in court for concealment of birth

The Management of the police in the province, under the leadership of Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has expressed their disappointment and urged mothers to value the precious lives of children. This comes as a 36-year-old woman from Vosman is expected to appear in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court today, 07 January 2022, facing a charge of concealment of birth, which is alleged to have occurred on 05 January 2022.

Her appearance follows an incident that took place at Ackerville Township where police were summoned to an absurd scene. On their arrival, they found a certain man who told them that he was busy in the rubbish bin when he noticed a strange plastic bag. He then investigated further and was surprised to find a fetus wrapped inside a shoebox that was covered by a plastic bag.

Police immediately probed the matter and managed to locate the suspect who is staying near the place where the discovery was made.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela further applauded the members and pleaded with the community to report those who commit illegal abortions to the authorities. “We earnestly call on families of ladies who are pregnant and then suddenly the pregnancy disappears, to report such inhumane behavior to the relevant authorities so that the matter could be followed up and the culprits thereof are put behind bars” she warned.
