Suspects arrested in possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition

On Thursday, 20 January 2022 at approximately 18:30 police members of Delft were conducting stop and search operations in Delft South. Two suspects aged 20 and 21 were arrested in Covid informal settlement on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after they were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with one magazine.

In an unrelated matter, Nyanga detectives deployed to perform tracing operations in the early hours of this morning visited an address in Hobo Hobo Street in Browns Farm. Upon searching the premises they confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition. Two males, aged 19 and 25, were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects will make their court appearance in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ courts on their respective charges.
