Suspects arrested on firearm and drug related charges

Our endeavors to root out the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in our communities yielded positive results when a 30-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Protea Road Marikana, Philippi East yesterday, 02 January 2022. The members of Philippi East police received a complaint about a person in possession of a firearm at a local pub. The members attended the complaint and saw the suspect fitting the description given. The suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court today on the mentioned charges.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday, 01 January 2022 in Marcus Garvey when Philippi East police found him in possession of 238 heroin straws, half packet heroin, half packet methamphetamine, one bag of marijuana, and an undisclosed amount of cash. The members were busy with crime prevention duties when the suspect was arrested.

The suspect will make a court appearance today in Phillippi Magistrates court on drug-related charges.
