Theft suspect arrested in Trenance Park

A 39-year-old man was apprehended by Reaction Officers as he was in the process of stealing valuables from a property on Ocean Ridge Drive in Trenance Park, KZN.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a tip-off that a man in a red hoodie was seen entering the yard. The caller believed that he intended to break into the home.

All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the property where the suspect was apprehended as he was exiting the premises. He was found in possession of two drums filled with valuables stolen from the yard.

During an interview, he stated that he conducted odd jobs for the homeowner who had given him permission to remove the goods. Officers made contact with the homeowner who denied the suspects version of events. He arrived on the scene and confirmed that the thief was known to his family and had stolen from them on previous occasions.

The suspect was released after the owner declined to register a criminal case.
