Two suspects arrested after being involved in an accident with suspected stolen vehicle

On, Thursday, 17 February 2022, at around 05h30 am, members of the Cartrack Company received information about a stolen vehicle, a green Mazda 323 Sedan with Gauteng registration number plates. The said car was reportedly stolen on 17 February 2022 near Steelpoort in the Limpopo Province.

These officials from Cartrack were on a lookout and then spotted the vehicle, fitting the description circulated, with two suspects inside, just after the Arbor / Blesbokfontein off-ramp. The car was heading towards the direction of Johannesburg (Gauteng Province). Police in Witbank, Ogies, and Delmas were called for backup.

A high-speed chase then ensued on the N12 Highway Road. The suspects were pursued by Cartrack in conjunction with the SAPS. The driver of the stolen vehicle drove into the back of a Toyota Quantum and reportedly lost control, resulting in the vehicle coming to a halt on the roadside.

Further reports indicate that four commuters inside the said minibus sustained minor injuries, whilst the driver of the stolen vehicle, sustained serious injuries and his accomplice sustained minor injuries.

Two suspects, aged between 30 and 40 respectively were then apprehended and both taken to hospital for medical treatment under police guard. The rest of the injured occupants from the said minibus were treated by the medical personnel at the scene. The recovered vehicle was confiscated.

The duo is expected to appear before the Delmas District’s Court soon on charges of possession of the suspected stolen property. Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges with regard to the theft of a motor vehicle in Limpopo.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela extended his appreciation for the sterling work done by officials from a Tracker Company and the collaboration displayed which culminated in this outstanding success.
