Abandoned pistol recovered in Airport Industria

The commitment of Maitland Flying Squad to purge the streets of illegal firearms has led to yet another retrieval of an abandoned firearm in Airport Industria, yesterday, 29 March 2022.

Members received a call from a rental company, reporting a pistol that was found behind the seat of a vehicle. They rapidly responded and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

The pistol was confiscated and handed over to Bishop Lavis SAPS.

In an unrelated incident, Anti-Gang Unit members responded to a tip-off about alleged illegal activities in Banjo Road, Steenberg. When the police arrived, the suspect ran into a Wendy’s house in the backyard, they gave chase and started searching the house. Drugs including 640 packets of tik and three sachets of cocaine with an estimated street value of R72 200-00 were discovered, as well as ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 20-year-old suspect was arrested and detained for dealing drugs and illegal possession of ammunition.

Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
