Two suspects aged between 35 and 53 years old were arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 for corruption.
Information was received about a home affairs official who reportedly colluded with a farm owner around Nelspruit in order to shield eleven Malawian illegal immigrants from being deported to their country. An intelligence-driven operation was conducted and the suspects were arrested immediately after the money had exchanged hands.
The two suspects were charged and detained pending their first court appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate court on Thursday, 17 March 2022.
