Instagram Scam in Durban

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is currently assisting two (2) Durban men who have been scammed by a female on Instagram over the weekend.

The men arrived at the RUSA Headquarters this morning seeking assistance after they were scammed separately by a female with the account name Miss- collins. One victim paid R15 500 of the R45 000 requested by the female and the second paid R3000 via the app MonPay.

According to the men, they were chatting to a South African female on Instagram and were introduced to a person on the same social media app who was investing small amounts of money for clients. They were promised high returns on a minimum investment of R1000. When the money was paid the female made contact asking for more monies before the interest was paid out. Since Friday (25/03/2022) both men were scammed out of R18 500 paid to Standard Bank & Capitec Bank accounts.

The suspect believed to be a female has a New Jersey – USA location on her profile & uses the number +1 (571) 645-5547. The prefix code for the United States of America.

A criminal case has been registered for investigation.
