A robbery suspect was arrested and a stolen Huawei cellphone was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) following a lengthy foot chase this morning (Friday).
Reaction Officers were dispatched to Cottonwood Drive in Trenance Park, KZN at approximately 08:01 after receiving reports of the robbery. While on route, Officers received information that the suspect had fled into a bush across Trenance Park.
RUSA Members abandoned their response vehicles and entered the bush when they noticed the suspect. A lengthy foot chase ensued during which the robber removed his t-shirt in an attempt to alter his appearance. Reaction Officers continued with the search which resulted in the suspect being apprehended. A Huawei cellphone belonging to the victim was recovered in his pocket.
The victim arrived on scene and explained that she was walking along Cottonwood Drive when she realised that she was being followed. The suspect suddenly placed a sharp object believed to be a knife on her neck and demanded she hands over her cellphone.
The 20-year-old is currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
