Tip-off leads to recovery of a hijacked vehicle and two suspects appear in court for cable theft

A 30-year suspect was arrested in Pretoria North after he was found in possession of a Toyota Corolla that was reported hijacked in the Sunnyside vicinity in March 2022.

Pretoria North SAPS members received information from reliable sources about a suspicious vehicle with no registration number that has been seen parked for some time at a carport.

Police proceeded to the said address, the vehicle was searched and the suspect was questioned upon which he could not provide satisfactory answers.

The vehicle was discovered to have false registration number plates. A test of the VIN number revealed it was the hijacked linked to the Sunnyside case.

A 30-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle.

In a separate incident, two suspects, aged 33 and 47, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court today after they were found with stolen copper cables.

On 24 March 2022, Pretoria North SAPS members, working together with Tshwane Metro Police Department, conducted crime prevention operations when they spotted a suspicious bakkie. The vehicle was stopped and searched leading to the discovery of two bags containing copper cables. The two suspects were charged with possession of stolen copper cables.

The Station Commander of Pretoria North, Colonel Joyce Julla, thanked the community members who continue to provide police with valuable information and commended the members for swift action which led to the recovery of a hijacked vehicle and the arrest of two suspects for possession of stolen copper cable.
