Understanding The Role of Social Workers in Mental Health

Worldwide, 15th of March is World Social Workers day, and to help create awareness around the Role of Social Workers in Mental Health, SADAG is hosting a #FacebookFriday LIVE Q&A on 18th March at 1pm. Social Workers play an important role in our communities, especially for Mental Health. Especially when South Africa doesnt have enough mental health professionals to meet the need for services in communities across the country.

Social Workers deal with a wide range of mental and social issues, and are concerned with the social well-being of individual clients and their families. Most importantly, Social Workers are tasked with looking after the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of many who may be physically, emotionally and/or mentally vulnerable.

Social Worker and Director at Johannesburg Parent & Child Counselling Centre, Claudine Ribeiro, explains the importance of Social Workers in our communities. We discuss how this role assisting families and individuals, is a pivotal role in society and helping those in need. She will go into detail about the services that social workers offer to parents, children or loved loved ones struggling to cope with Mental Health issues.
