Car waxing tips

Everything in life is about ‘maintenance’ and hence the expression ‘what you put into it is what you get out.’ That is precisely what waxing a car does – it restores and maintains that original beautiful finish of your car. Explore further about some car waxing tips.1

Why should you wax your car? 1

Besides making your car look brand new, there are many other advantages for waxing your car. Please don’t wax your car until you have read your car’s owner’s manual and spoken to your local car dealership to confirm that it is safe to do so.

Wax provides a layer of protection1

Many deposits can land on your car’s body, such as bird droppings, mulberry stains, sea salt, etc. It is also much easier to wash off such deposits with the wax layer in place.

Protection from flying stones1

While travelling on the freeway, passing traffic may kick up small stones or other debris which hit the car’s body. A wax layer can prevent the chipping of the paintwork. In addition, paintwork can suffer from the constant battering of rain, snow, sleet, hail, wind, and the sun, but a wax layer can minimize these effects.

What about paint scratches? 1

Waxing a car may not remove all scratches in the paintwork but can make them almost disappear.

How often should I wax the car? 1

You’ll have to follow a regular plan, and not wait until you think the car needs another coat of wax. The frequency of applying wax to your car’s body all depends on the environment. For example, if your car is parked in a garage and you only drive it once a week, it won’t need as much waxing as a car parked in the open and driven to work every day. The type of wax you use also determines the waxing frequency.

Do you want that showroom look for your car? 1

Experts say that waxing your car once a month will provide your car with that brand new finish. Some synthetic waxes claim that this new finish can last up to a year, but other products only last 3 months. It’s time to wax your car when water on the body surface no longer forms little beads.

How to apply the wax1

Always apply wax to the car in the shade as the full sun hardens the wax and makes buffing more difficult. Only apply wax to small areas to avoid the wax from drying out. Applying more wax doesn’t make the car shine better but makes it more difficult to buff. Make sure from the label if you should apply one or two coats.

Use only a microfibre cloth1

Microfibre cloths are the best to use for great buffing results and they won’t leave behind any lint. Have many towels handy to avoid using one towel that soon becomes caked with wax.

Waxing your car is one way of protecting the paintwork from the environment. However, it would help if you also had financial protection by acquiring good car insurance cover for your car.
