Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to a high school in Brindhaven- Verulam by an Off-Duty Police Officer reporting an attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old female.
Reaction Officers arrived on the scene outside the school and were informed that the mother and child had fled towards Brindhaven. Officers located her and established that the woman and her new boyfriend arrived at the high school to fetch her 13 year old daughter from a previous relationship. Whilst seated in the vehicle, an ex-boyfriend (not the father of the child) approached her and attempted to gain entry into the car.
Whilst banging on the vehicle windows, the grade 8 student walked toward her mother unaware of the situation. The ex-boyfriend attempted to grab her and force her into his grey Opel Corsa bakkie with NKA (Nkandla) registration plates. The student fled on foot with her mothers ex-boyfriend in pursuit. When the man failed to catch up with the student, he ran back to his vehicle and sped off. A male passenger was spotted in the fleeing vehicle. The frantic woman then contacted a Policeman known to her, who then contacted the RUSA Operations Center for assistance.
The woman is in possession of a Protection Order.
