Faulty geyser blamed for house fire in Verulam

A faulty geyser was suspected to be the cause of a fire that started at a home in Verulam – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a complex on Starr Street after residents noticed smoke billowing out of one of the units. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered that residents from the complex had forced open the door to the unit.

Officers entered the residence and noticed smoke emanating from the ceiling on the upper level of the house. With the use of a fire hose, RUSA Members doused the fire. The owner of the house informed Reaction Officers that their two cats were missing. A search was conducted and one of the cats was located behind the fridge. The second feline was not located.

No injuries were reported.
