SAPS in conjunction with the Department Transport, Safety and Liaison, the SANDF, and Northern Cape, and Free State Provincial Traffic departments conducted a roadblock today on the N8 road outside Kimberley. Community in Blue patrollers also participated by distributing pamphlets to motorists.
The collective team stopped and searched 302 vehicles and 407 persons resulting in the issuing of traffic fines to the value of R10 000.
The main focus of the operation is on illegal activities including stolen goods, firearms, and ammunition, stolen vehicles, drugs, livestock, etc, in transit on our roads leading into and out of the province.
Speeding, driver fatigue, use of safety belts, and overloading will also be concentrated on.
Our attention is also focused on responsible driving at all times therefore illegal spinning and drag racing, drunken driving, and drinking in public will not be tolerated.
Businesses, especially restaurants serving alcohol, taverns, and nightclubs will also be visited to ensure they adhere to the closing times and license conditions.
Today’s operations were also visited by the Frances Baard District Commissioner, Maj Gen Johan Bean, and the Sol Plaatje Executive Mayor, Mr. Dante Sonyoni.
The SAPS is also urging residents to implement and adhere to the following safety hints during the Easter holidays:
Make sure doors, windows, gates, garage doors are locked;
Do not leave valuables lying around in your yard or motor vehicle that can lure criminals to your property;
Always arrange for someone to look after your home while you are on holiday;
Install alarm systems and surveillance cameras at your home and business premises to deter criminals that intend to rob and steal;
Be vigilant and immediately report suspicious-looking people loitering around your house or business and
Avoid posting photos or a status update when on holiday, rather wait until you return home from your vacation.
The police in the Northern Cape will be out in full force to ensure everyone is safe and feel safe during this Easter period and beyond.
