The body of 28-year-old Preston John was recovered inside an outbuilding in Trenance Park – Verulam earlier today.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a call made by the homeowner who peered into the outbuilding window and noticed a hand sticking out from a pile of mats and a mattress. The homeowner could not confirm if the person was asleep or deceased as a neighbor and a known male from La Mercy Beach – Tongaat was using the premises to consume drugs earlier. The door was locked and the keys were missing.
Reaction Officers & Paramedics arrived at the home on Madrona Drive at approx 11:47 and were directed to the property where an outbuilding was located. Officers forced open a metal door (picture 4) and removed the mats and mattress and found the body of Preston John. He was declared deceased. His phone was missing and his friend could not be located.
It is believed that the victim was suffocated to death and the suspect attempted to conceal his body under the mattress.
A case of murder is being investigated.
