Thembalethu SAPS has arrested two suspects in two different cases of murder that were reported over the weekend. These murders claimed the lives of two, a 29-year-old Thulelwe Volantiyo and the 19-year-old Malakhiwe Skhundla, both from Thembalethu near George. Commitment by the investigating officers ensured that the suspects in both cases are arrested and due to appear in the George magistrates’ court, once they have been charged with murder.
The initial incident that eventually claimed the life of 29-year-old Thulelwe Volantiyo on 1 April 2022, already happened on 26 March 2022 when the deceased and the suspect had an altercation at premises in Zone 5, Thembalethu. It is further alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased in her neck where after she was admitted to the local hospital in a critical condition. The SAPS was informed that she passed away on 01 April 2022 and after a Murder docket was opened for further investigation. Information gathered by the investigation officer led to the arrest of the 37-year-old suspect over the weekend.
The second incident happened this morning, Sunday, 03 April 2022 at approximately 04:45 in Lukhanyo Street in Zone 6, Thembalethu.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim, 19-year-old Malakhiwe Skhundla was stabbed to death by the 18-year-old suspect who had meanwhile been arrested following information on his whereabouts.
Both suspects are currently detained at the Thembalethu SAPS holding cells, pending their first court appearance in the George Magistrates’ court, once charged.
Meanwhile, the Detectives of Thembalethu appeal to the local community to come forward with any information that could assist them with the tracing of a suspect that is sought in connection with the fatal stabbing of a third person who died in Thembalethu over the weekend at the hands of thugs. Earlier today, Sunday, 03 April 2022, members of Thembalethu responded to murder on 13th Street, Zone 8, Thembalethu at approximately 02:40. Members found the lifeless body of 36-year-old Luyanda Natius Toto behind a Allbrick home where he collapsed after being stabbed in his neck. He was apparently stabbed in the street by the unknown suspect while he and his girlfriend were walking in the street.
