This week, the world marked Africa Day. As part of Africa Day, MasterDrive is sharing the progress and development made in South Africa and across Africa, ensuring road safety is improved and that driving standards meet international norms. The inroads MasterDrive already made in this regard are a source of pride and the organisation looks forward to further developing driver training standards and consequently safer roads across Africa.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says as Africa continues to grow and develop, the focus on road safety should as well. “MasterDrive has successfully provided training across the whole of South Africa already. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the world’s most challenging times in modern years, MasterDrive remains committed to ensuring every part of South Africa has access to driver training that meets international standards.
“Even during this time, the commitment to providing driver training and enhancing driving standards across Africa was not put on the back burner. Training initiatives courtesy of MasterDrive continue to take place in Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana and, in more recent months, Uganda.”
The objective of developing drivers that meet international standards cannot be underestimated. “As Africa becomes a hotbed for developments and optimisation of opportunities, it is also important to ensure human development plays an essential role in this. Part of this is ensuring that when people drive, they have the skills and the technique necessary to commute safely and ultimately reach their full potential in all areas of their lives.
“Consequently, MasterDrive is committed to assisting organisations in the training of individuals, those who deliver driver training and in developing safe driving standards in many African countries. Additionally, follow-up audits are an essential part to ensure this is maintained and skills obtained are continually shared with the wider population.”
