Victim Assaulted During Hijacking: Phoenix – KZN

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a service station in Phoenix – KZN at approximately 03:54 this morning (Saturday) after the victim of a hijacking sought assistance from staff.

Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival met with the man who sustained injuries to his head, arm and legs. He explained that he was at the unit 9 intersection in Rydalvale, KZN when a red VW Polo (registration unknown) blocked his path of travel. Two men alighted from their vehicle and produced firearms.

One of the suspects forced him into the passenger seat of his white Nissan NP 300 double cab bakkie. The two men drove off with him in the vehicle. He was asked to hand over his cellphone and bank cards before he was driven to an ATM in KwaMashu. The hijackers assaulted him with a metal pipe while demanding the pin to his bank card. After failing to withdraw the cash, the victim was dropped near Besters in KwaMashu. The man walked to a service station and sought assistance from employees. He was unable to provide Reaction Officers with a registration number for his vehicle.

Reaction Officers conducted a search for the bakkie and the red VW Polo however no recoveries were made.
