Company convicted for dealing in abalone

Port Nolloth Regional Court convicted and sentenced a Port Nolloth Abalone company on Wednesday, 01 June 2022 for processing abalone estimated at R315 500-00.

In July 2016, a Phakisa operation was conducted at the Port Nolloth Abalone Farm. During the search, 880 units of abalone were seized. Three suspects were arrested but the case against the three suspects was later withdrawn.

The company pleaded guilty and was sentenced to R50 000-00 fine or three years’ imprisonment of which R30 000-00 or eighteen months is suspended for the period of three years.
