Two suspects between the age of 40 and 45 were arrested in Heilbron on Saturday, 11 June 2022 by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Welkom together with the K9 Unit based in Kroonstad as well as Stock Theft Unit based in Heilbron.
The suspect’s arrest came after the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team received information on Wednesday, 08 June 2022 about the two suspects who wanted to sell explosives. The police followed up on the information and made arrangements with the suspect to buy the explosives.
The suspects then agreed to meet the police on Saturday, 11 June 2022 where they offered to sell the explosives for an amount of R50 000-00. During the meeting, they then reduced the offer to R35 000-00. After the sale was concluded, the suspects were immediately arrested for dealing in explosives.
The duo is expected to appear before the Heilbron Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 13 June 2022.
